Dhanteras is also popularly known as Dhantrayodashi and is a very important festival of Hindus. It takes place two days before the festival of Diwali. Significance of Dhantrayodashi
Dhanteras is the first day of the five-day festival Diwali. It occurs on the thirteenth day of the Krishna Paksha in Kartik month, that is, in October-November. The festival is considered a day of wealth and prosperity. Devotees believe that worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber on this day brings fortune and abundance.
Traditionally, families get their homes cleaned and decked up for Diwali, marking the cleasing of the mind as well as soul. To ward off untimely death and save loved ones, the festival also mandates lighting lamps for Yama Deepam.
