Dehradun: Six friends tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident late Monday night around 2:00 AM. Their speeding car collided with a container at ONGC Chowk after taking a U-turn on Kanwali Road. The incident has highlighted alarming details about the car’s movement and speed in the moments leading up to the crash.

The journey began at the Wadia Institute in Balliwala, passing through Govindgarh and Kanwali Road, where the car made a fateful U-turn near the Kanwali Road police outpost. Dubbed the “U-turn of death,” this maneuver set off the chain of events leading to the crash at ONGC Chowk.

The Speeding Timeline on Dehradun Accident 

Analysis of CCTV footage revealed that while the car maintained normal speeds initially, it began accelerating dangerously after the U-turn:

  • At Govindgarh: Traveling at approximately 64 km/h.
  • From Govindgarh to Balliwala: Speed increased to 77 km/h in 35 seconds.
  • Between Balliwala and Synergy Hospital (2.8 km): Covered in 120 seconds at an average speed of 84 km/h.
  • 600 meters to ONGC Chowk: Covered in 14 seconds, reaching a speed of approximately 154 km/h.

The excessive speed resulted in the driver losing control, leading to a fatal collision with the container at ONGC Chowk.


Container’s Speed Analysis

The container involved in the crash was moving at a normal speed. It was last seen at Kishannagar Chowk at 1:15 AM and reached ONGC Chowk at 1:19 AM, covering a distance of 1.5 km in four minutes at a speed of 20–22 km/h.


Probable Cause: Racing and Recklessness

It is suspected that the youths in the luxury car had overtaken an Innova at Ballupur Chowk, which may have triggered a reckless race. The sudden speed increase near Synergy Hospital caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the crash.


Investigation and Eyewitness

The only survivor of the accident, Siddhesh, remains unconscious and is expected to provide crucial details about the crash. Meanwhile, the police and transport department are continuing their investigation, aided by footage from Smart City cameras.
